Grief Counseling in Morgan, Utah

Support for loss, in person or via telehealth anywhere in Utah

Grief doesn't follow a schedule. Some days you feel almost okay, and other days a song in the grocery store undoes you. You might feel sad, angry, numb, guilty, or all of those before lunch. None of that means you're grieving wrong. It means you loved someone or something, and that love doesn't just switch off.

I'm Patty Johnson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I help people find their footing after loss. You don't have to "get over it" or move on. My goal is to help you carry your grief in a way that leaves room for your life again.

The kinds of loss I help with

Most people think of grief as losing someone to death, and that's a big part of my work. I support people after the loss of a spouse, parent, child, sibling, or friend, including sudden or traumatic losses that leave you with more questions than answers.

Grief shows up in other places too. I also work with pregnancy and infant loss, the death of a beloved pet, divorce and breakups, and anticipatory grief when someone you love is sick or declining. If it feels like loss to you, it counts.

What grief counseling with me looks like

Our first sessions are about getting to know you, your loss, and what's hardest right now. Some people want to talk about the person they lost. Others want tools for getting through the workday or sleeping at night. We start wherever you are.

I draw from a few approaches that work well for grief. Narrative Therapy helps you tell your story and find meaning in it. Internal Family Systems (IFS) makes space for the parts of you that feel guilt, anger, or relief, without judgment. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and CBT give you practical ways to live alongside painful feelings instead of fighting them. We'll use what fits you.

When it might be time to reach out

There's no rule about when to start counseling. Some people come in within weeks of a loss, and others come years later when grief resurfaces around an anniversary or a big life change. It may help to talk to someone if your grief feels stuck, if it's affecting your work or relationships, or if the people around you have moved on and you feel alone in it.

Frequently asked questions

How long does grief counseling take?
It's different for everyone. Some people come for a few months, and others prefer longer-term support. We'll check in regularly about what's helping.

Is it normal to still be grieving after a year?
Yes. Grief often changes shape over time, but it doesn't have an expiration date. Many people feel it most around holidays and anniversaries.

Can I do grief counseling online?
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available anywhere in Utah and work just as well for many people.
